Meet our Conductor
In addition to acting as Conductor of Kampin Laulu Chamber Choir, Saara Aittakumpu is a full-time Lecturer of choral conducting, Church music (Kuopio), at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. She has previously held the position of Conductor of the Polytech Choir (PK) in 2013–2023, and Kaari Ensemble (2008–2022), the latter of which she founded.
Aittakumpu holds a Master of Music degree from Sibelius Academy, having majored in orchestra and choir conducting. She has been awarded as the best conductor at international choir competitions (Baltic Sea Choral Competition in Latvia in 2019 and the 5th International Anton Bruckner Choral Competiton in 2015 in Austria). Aittakumpu was awarded as the Choir Conductor of the Year 2018 by the Finnish Choral Conductors’ Association.
A keen commissioner of new music, Aittakumpu has conducted dozens of premieres and has prepared choirs for major orchestral productions both in Finland and abroad (including the BBC Proms). Aittakumpu has acted as the Conductor of Kampin Laulu since 2019.
